March 2015

One of my favourite months has come & gone in a flash!

It was a funny old month....... my phone was stolen from my shop so I had to find the money to buy a new one, no it wasn't insured! At least I now have a very lovely iPhone 6. I had a great week off which went far to fast, me & the cats enjoyed the eclipse in the chilly garden, spent a day with the family, started my Victory jumper, finding boot sale treasures, treating myself to the fabulous A stitch in Time knitting book, enjoying spring flowers & watching The Imitation Game.

I also managed 2 brilliant gigs...... Mike Peters & Stiff Little Fingers

We're nearly halfway through April, why does time go so quickly?
It's starting to stress me out :(

Jubilee Weekend

And it's all over!!!

We've waited for months.... brought the Union Jacks..... planned the parties & it's gone :(

On Sunday we went to our friends pub & watched the flotilla

Much to OH's dislike........ he was hoping to get away from it!!

Monday I headed off to Exmouth to see this

I love this vintage mobile cinema & wanted to see it in real life for a long time..... thankfully my brother took me!

He waited for me while I went inside to see an archive film of Exmouth

If you get a chance to see it I would recommend it :)

It started to get really busy so we treated ourselves to fish & chips in the car

Our view :)

I must admit I gave up on the Jubilee concert about 9pm but I enjoyed the highlights!

I dashed about yesterday doing the housework & watching the service on TV

Didn't Queenie look odd with out Philip by her side?
I felt really sorry for her :(

Today is another special day as OH turns

How did that happen????

He was 26 when we met!!

I feel another afternoon in the pub!!!

Ted's not up for a party

One last photo....... my slice of pizza that made me chuckle!!

Phew that's was a long post..... sorry!!!

Grease....... is the word!!!

It was such along time ago but I wanted to share with you our photo's of a top night out...

Getting ready

Helen on stage for the fancy dress judging

Beauty School Dropout

Guess what we had to do???

Put a paper bag on our head....... but we all did it!!

Me & Helen

I wasn't dressed up as much as I hoped...... I worked all day, rushed to the train station, ran to the theatre, had a jacket potato which left under 10 mins to change in a very small, very busy toilet!

If it comes to a town near you do go it's so much fun!

Check out the website

Have a great weekend

January 2011

We're already 1 month into 2011.... how did that happen?

But that means spring is waiting around the corner.... hooray!!
January is always a tough month as it tends to be a bit miserable which isn't helped by the media telling us nearly every day this is the worse day of the year...etc...etc!

Here's a look back over my January....

We've had a few sunny days which Nanny has enjoyed.... see bottom left!

A sneak preview of the blanket I made for Kelly's baby...... she should have it now so I can share :) The flower pattern is from Rose.

I'm not working today which is great because the sun is shining!
I have lots of jobs, one being to empty the Make, Do and Mend bags from Tuesday night....wow it was a busy one & when I got home at 10pm I didn't have the energy to put everything away. I'll also be sorting out all the admin, I hate that job as it's so time consuming but hey it's only once a month.

I did see The Kings Speech..... I loved it! My sort of film, great story, great acting & no stupid special effects! Did anyone else well up at the end??? I really want to see it again which is very unlike me..... looking forward to the DVD coming out. Fingers crossed for Colin Firth on Oscar night.

Hope you're all having a great week ...... back soon as I'm on holiday next week.....yippee!!

Wreck This Journal part 2

OK I'm not even going to say how fast January is going!

I've enjoyed being normal this week with having the weekend off :) but the time has slipped by & I haven't done everything I wanted to do however I did spend some time with OH. Sometimes I forget to do that what with work, craft fairs, Folksy, Make, Do and Mend...... it was nice to relax & do very little.

Only 1 more week at work then I have a week off....yippee!!! Really need it before I end up on Mary Portas for bad customer service...... you can only bite your lip for so long. I then have my normal 2 weeks off in March to look forward to....... I just hope the things on my list can wait that long!

On Monday I headed to the post office with this....

It arrived back to me on Wednesday but just look what happened....

After a slight panic attack I remembered what this book was about but it's still troubling me!! OH joked that I may even have to buy another one.
I plan to take it in the shower next & get that over with.

I managed to finish Kelly's blanket this week with the help of Rose & her lovely new flower crochet pattern. I won't share photo's just yet in case Kelly has time to take a peep.
I've also been finishing some knitted bears for my Folksy shop.

Bit of an odd question but does anyone do Burlesque?
I need to know how to attach Pasties..... I won't use the N word as god knows what kind of people will start following me!
My friend has been asking me for a year to make her some, I'm also doing a fair in April & I think they could sell. Please let me know your thoughts.

I may go to see The Kings Speech today....... I'm so looking forward to seeing it :)

Have a good week....over & out!

We're all going to the zoo!!!!

Hope you've all had a good week.
Today should be show & tell Sunday but as October has gone so fast I hadn't planned anything ..... so I'm doing my own show & tell...... the zoo!!!

Last week I had the pleasure of going to Dartmoor Zoo with my friend Charlie & family....and what a fantastic day out it was!!!

Now I know some people aren't keen on zoos but I thought it was great & would recommend it to anyone. Although it was half term it was very quite & unlike many zoo they didn't seem keen to get you to spend money while there! Luckily we had taken a picnic as there wasn't much food for sale, it was lovely sat in the autumn sunshine eating our pack up with a flask of tea!

If you're a regular reader of my blog you'll know I love animals, my favourites are of course cats but I do have a soft spot for deers...any deer will do!!!

I was lucky they're both there...... not many monkeys but that suits me just fine, not that keen!!!

So I'm saving the best til last....

As we headed up the hill I saw him sat on the rock & my heart skipped a beat..... I couldn't believe how close we got.

Just before 2pm we went back to see them being fed, this only happens every other day so we were very glad it was tiger day. As we waited a man came out & asked if anyone wanted to go in the tiger house!!!! ooohhhhh me please!!!!

There was only 6 places so I quickly signed up.... it wasn't cheap but it's something I've always wanted to do

Look how close I was....

They were pacing up & down so much I couldn't take photo's :( but the memory will stay forever....as will the smell!!!!!

It was such a good day out....... if you don't know the story of the zoo pop over to the web site here...... there's also a book & a film will be coming soon!!!
It's a lovely story, there was a documentary on TV about 3 years ago called 'Ben's Zoo'...did you see it? I did but it's taken 3 years to get there!

Do visit they need all the help they can get :)

Have a good week

Show and Tell Sunday

Morning all........ today is yet another Show and Tell Sunday.... they come around fast don't they?

September's Show and Tell is hosted by the lovely Kelly - please stop by & see her selection.

Today we're showing our favourite films............

Now I struggled with this as I'm not really a film person...... odd isn't it? I've only been to the cinema a few times & unlike some people never watch films over & over....my brother has about 200 DVD that he keeps watching. I do have some favourites....some I've watched more then once so here they are.....

I'll start with the one everyone will know..... who doesn't love Grease?
I remember queuing to see this back in 1978...... I also went to see a double bill with Grease 2 & again with Saturday Night Fever..... I must have been about 8 or 9!!!

Love this..... the music, clothes, Vegas as I would like to see it..... ok so it's a bit violent but hey it's a great film.

A lovely Sunday afternoon film..... I had the pleasure of meeting one of the original Dam Busters...... read all about here.

Another great wet Sunday afternoon film

I saw this film when I was about 12, you remember when BBC2 showed old films on a Saturday afternoon?
Well that would be the highlight of my week.... I saw some real classics. However I can't remember most of their names :(
Years later I saw this again on TV & finally brought it on DVD. I think it's a real feel good film :)
I might even watch it this afternoon.

If you want a good cry then this is the one for you!!!

I watched it for the first time with subtitles....... I was crying so much OH could hear me from upstairs!! I watched it again in English but something was lost.

It's an amazing film & makes you realise things could be so much worse....... that reminds me I had a tarot reading last week & I was told I must not be grateful for what I had ..... I'm too humble.... I should always want more then the crumbs on the table.....Now watch this film & tell me you're not grateful for what you have!!!

That's it..... I didn't do too bad for someone who doesn't like films!!
I didn't even mention the Glenn Miller story, White Christmas...... I could go on!!!
And like my music there is nothing modern!!! Boy I'm definitely born in the wrong era!!!

The next Show and Tell will be Sunday 3rd October.....

Topic = One thing you would like to do before you die

(ooohh that sounds really miserable doesn't it..... it's not meant that way!)
We were talking about this at work & came up with loads of different things.

I will show you my birthday presents soon as I was a really lucky girl...... back to work on Tuesday :( so I better make the most of my last 2 days!

Change of plan....

Hello everyone, hope you're all having a good week. For most of you today means the start of the summer holiday...... :) for me it just means the buses will be empty in the morning & should hopefully run on time!!

Now I had to have a very quick change of plan today. Last night was spent making a 100 follower picture to launch my giveaway as yes I had finally made it to 100! Just a 100 I hear you say?...... Well it's been very slow & as soon as I get close someone disappears.......it's like being the popular girl at school isn't it?

So this morning I was all ready to do the post when I noticed I had 99 followers!!!

So sorry everyone the giveaway will have to wait!

I thought I'd show you this picture of my kitties in the basket which I hope to use on my web site.

It's been my day off today & what a lovely day I've had......after a mad rush to get booking forms & art work off to Exeter Phoenix for something exciting involving Make, Do and Mend.
I picked & sorted my dried lavender then watched The Damned United this afternoon.
Have you seen it? I really enjoyed it :)

Hope you all have a great weekend....back soon

Books

Hello everyone, well this wasn't what I was going to post about but I've just finished this book & wanted to share it with you. You'll have to wait a bit longer to see my CK goodies.

As you know I did a post about the 1st Jennifer Worth book... Call the Midwife.... lots of you had read it & I wonder how many have read this?

Call the Midwife was in my book cupboard for months before I finally got around to reading it, I loved it so when Penny gave me this to read I couldn't wait. At the time I was reading another book......

Have you read it?
My friends mum lent it to me...... I'm not sure.... it was a bit fluffy for me. It took for ever to read..... in fact about 2 months which is a long time for me!! I was glad when I finished it so I could start on the next...... don't you just hate it when someone says 'read this book it great'.... well no it's not great, I must confess it was too happy for me....lol!!! OH always says I like doom & gloom things!

This book is excellent, I couldn't put it down at the end...some sad stories.
I love social history books, I find them fascinating, how times have changed & this was all in my parents life time. It does make me angry looking at some of the children today after reading this....... last night they were climbing over the roof of my doctors..... I could see them running over the roof & trying to smash windows. They aged from about 6 - 10 years old, they were jumping off & I was really hoping one would hurt himself...... god that makes me sound terrible!!
I called the police as they are supposed break up gangs.... there was about 20 of them.... I was told they were only children!!! I don't think so....more like animals! Where are they parents?
Would you let your 6 year old go out & play without knowing where they are?

Just before I go I wanted to tell you about the film I watched on Saturday night...... I'd taken the weekend off because The Pogues were playing at the Beautiful Days festival which is in Ottery St Mary..... about 15 mins from my parents house....but I couldn't get tickets. Sulking....me??? Oh yes!!
Anyway about the film..... it was The Wrestler..... Have you seen it??
We couldn't decide on a film we both liked & after hearing all the hype I thought we'd give it ago.
It's was really good, I can't stop thinking about it. No Victoria I'm not going to take on the role of this film....lol!!
I thought it was really moving & I really felt for him. Micky Rourke was excellent, which did surprise me. It may not be everyones cup of tea but I do recommend it. There was only a few bits I couldn't watch...hate violence, gives me nightmares!

Only 1 week to go before my holiday...... off next weekend to see The Men They Couldn't Hang..... I'm seeing them on Saturday & it's my birthday on Sunday. Funny thing is OH took me to see this band for my 18th birthday in London...... it'll be my 38th birthday next weekend..... still enjoying seeing them but can't keep up anymore :(

What a difference a day makes

This was the view on my way home today......

A very different day from yesterday when I woke to dark cloudy skies & decided not to walk the 2 miles to work just in case it rained. So I set off to get the bus & just as I was about to leave the sky lite up.... it must be my eyes I thought but by the time I got to the gate the thunder came & also the rain :(

I hate thunder, always have done, so I ran back inside as fast as I could. I tried to leave again about 10 mins later & the same thing happened... so I waited for another 15 mins... no more thunder... ah it must be over. So OH got dressed to walk me to the bus stop, just in case, when we got outside there was the loudest thunder I've ever heard.... even OH jumped!! The ground shock & by that time I'd really had enough & was rather upset.

I called work & was told not to come in til it had passed...... big girl :(

It's hard to believe how different today was.

I love this bridge in the city wall & would love to walk over it but it's been closed for years.....

Weeks ago Floss tagged me to list 7 things about myself, I'm trying really hard to think of 7 things as I listed 25 things a while ago which you can see here. Sorry a bit of a cop out.

Now if you haven't read it before don't be put off, I'm not a cider drinking yob... I promise!!!

I've also been tagged by Rose to list 6 thing I love..

You need to follow these rules:
1. Pick 6 unimportant things you love
2. Mention & link to the person who tagged you
3. Tag 6 of your favourite bloggers to play along ( I'm not going to do this but if you want to give it a go feel free)

So here are mine....

1. The smell of pubs... weird I know but when I was little my dad used to go to the pub once a week on a Sunday evening. He would have a few then come home to help with bath time etc. I remember sitting on his knee in nice clean PJ's watching dad's army!! Every time I smell pubs on people it takes me back to those time.

2. Spending warm summer days indoors..... Think that's a Smith's song!!! I like the fact I should be outside but I'm not!

3. Afternoon naps... don't need to explain that one!

4. Neatly folded linens.... I've been known to refold things if they're not done to my standards.

5. Wool.... and lots of it!!!

6. Clean sheets.... not that unimportant!

Phew glad that's over, I've been thinking about that for days but couldn't think of anything I love which is silly because I love loads!!

I watched this on Thursday........

Not as good as I thought, glad I didn't pay £10. I loved the book because it was written through children's eyes but the film was different. The ending was good but a bit OTT compared to the book.

I would recommend it, hire it don't buy it but do read the book as it's loads better.

I taught my friend how to crochet on Friday, it went really well. She's been asking me for months now & I wasn't sure if I could do it but on Friday we met in Starbucks at 8am, I've never crocheted in public before so I felt a bit odd!! We stayed for 45 mins & she completed a flower..... next week we're aiming for the second row of petals!!!

In 3 weeks time I'm teaching the Brownies how to crochet...... I've been asked to take the session which is a bit worrying...... any ideas what they can make??

Hope you've all had a good weekend.

Treats

Hello everyone, hope you've still got the lovely sunshine.
It's my day off again so I thought I'd do a quick post & share some treats with you.
First up & no picture....... my lovely new phone arrived today....yippee!!!
I love it, it's fantastic & yes I've been playing with it all day!!!
It's so quick & easy to use, I have problems texting people as I have chipolata fingers.... does anyone else have this problem??
Anyway I managed to send a text in about 5 seconds... how cool is that??
So I thought I'd use the camera to take some photo's to check out the quality..... don't think they look that good which is a shame because I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy a new camera. What does it look like your end????
So this is my new mug.....
I've been looking at it everyday on my way to work so decided to check out the price, now I was happy to pay about £5 for it but when I went in it was only £2.95..... bargain.
Then on to the library where I borrowed this film......

Have you seen it?? I read the book last year & I've been wanting to buy the DVD but I know I would only watch it once so it would be a waste of money. I was planning on watching it this afternoon but I haven't had time..... too busy playing!!!
The book was from Amazon, I had to ordered OH's birthday present & I thought it would be rude not to order myself something.

The hangers belong to my late nan, mum was going through somethings & found them. I think I'm going to crochet some flowers to go on them to cheer them up.
A photo of the garden.....

My salad bed & grape vine, we had 2 grapes last year but things are looking good this year.
