March Book Review

I managed 2 books in March...... if I'm going to hit my target of 50 I need to start reading smaller book!

First up......

Three very different women work together at Cadbury's Bournville factory, and their lives become entwined by war and work - and a child called David. Edie, the main character, marries young to escape her unhappy family home. Widowed at 19 and, after losing her child from the marriage, she faces the war grieving and lonely. Then one night during the Blitz, an infant mysteriously abandoned during the bombing is handed into her care... Ruby, meanwhile, doesn't want to be left behind in the wedding stakes and settles for marriage with Frank. Finally there's Janet, kind-hearted and susceptible to male charm, who is hurt desperately by an affair with a married man. David, the child who steals Edie's heart as she brings him up through a time none of them will ever forget, is the love of all their lives. And when David is old enough to wonder who he really is, he leads Edie through struggle and heartache to a life and love she would never have dreamed of..

I've never read any Annie Murray.... have you?
I really enjoyed this book, it's not going to stop the world but it was a really nice read. I think I'll be reading some more.
You can treat yourself to the Kindle version for just £1 on Amazon!

On the outbreak of war, Belle Reilly's husband Jimmy enlists and heads for the deadly trenches of northern France. But Belle knows she cannot stand idly by when so many are sacrificing their lives.
Volunteering to help battlefield wounded, Belle is posted to France as a Red Cross ambulance driver. There, a tragic accident brings her face to face with Etienne - a man from her past she's never quite forgotten.
Torn between forbidden passion, loyalty and love, Belle is caught in an impossible situation. Will she succumb to the dark forces of this most brutal of wars? Or will fate intervene and finally lead her to lasting happiness?

I read Belle (part 1) back in November..... although I thought this book wasn't for me I really enjoyed it & was looking forward to part 2.
This book is based in WW1 & wasn't as saucy as the first book!
Not sure I'll be reading any more of her books...... I did enjoy it but they're not cheap & I don't think I'd be prepared to spend that much for them.
At the mo I'm loving the under £2.99 Kindles on Amazon!

I'll be back to let you know how my April reading is going soon!

March 2013

March was a busy month even though I haven't blogged much!
It started with the first Crikey of the year, followed by Matthews birthday party, yarn bombing, a week off, granny square making, Birdsong at the theatre, The Men They Couldn't Hang & lots of hot cross buns!!!

It's been a good month.

I've also read another 2 books, I'll be back with reviews later.

Hope March was good for you too

Birdsong

I've been away too long again haven't I?

I'm finding that even when I have things to tell you all I don't seem to have the time to blog.

So my main news is that I went to see Birdsong the play in Plymouth last week!!!!

Thankfully the changing of my day off worked out well, I was hoping to see this in the evening but couldn't get home. My friend Helen also had the day off so we headed off in the very heavy rain!!!

I've mentioned how much I love this book just a few times!

I wanted to see the play when it came to London but I didn't get around to it & then it finished.

I didn't think that much of the TV programme..... it was good but not as powerful as the book.

I didn't have to worry about the stage show not being powerful!!

'Cor blimey..... it really hit home at some points.

The going over the top at the battle of the Somme was really moving & I had to wipe away tears!

The cast were amazing & the way they told the story was very clever...... they only missed out the 1978 part but nearly everything else was there..... unlike the TV adaption.

If it wasn't for the saucy bits & the bad language I would say take your children..... spread the word so no one forgets what these brave people went through.

The end was very moving although I did manage to hold it together unlike Helen!!!

You can find out the tour dates here

If it's coming near you..... beg, borrow or steal a ticket..... you MUST see it!!

Back soon!

I'm back!!!

So sorry for the unexplained break from blogging..... not sure what happened!
The time has just flown by & I haven't felt I had much to say.

So today it St Patricks Day..... as you know I love to celebrate but this year has been different.
I've been off for Cheltenham racing this week as normal...... however I haven't really got into it & it's been the first year in many I didn't put a bet on.
I've spent most of the week asleep...... not sure why I'm so worn out but hey I'm happy to go with it.

I was due back to work on Tuesday but I was told on Thursday I had to return on Monday..... this made me very unhappy as I had plans for the weekend which I was told I had to cancel.
So for the first time in over 20 years I'm not celebrating today.
Feels kinda weird!
So today OH went out to celebrate while I stayed at home finishing the list of jobs..... well ok I did have a nap this afternoon too!

So what have I been up to...

In my last post I mentioned the Crikey Spring Fling...

My 1940's crochet brooches went down a storm!
Hoping to get them on my website & Folksy shop later.

On the Sunday it was Matthew's birthday so we had a party

Can't believe he's 4!

Tuesday was Make, Do and Mend.... this month it was yarn bombing!

You can read more about it on our blog and the local newspapers website

I have been busy...... lots going on at work too so no wonder I was worn out!

This week is was nice to relax with the girls

And try to finish my blanket

Remember that?
I started it about 5 years & I still have about 60 squares to make!

I hope to be back to normal next week..... commenting & blogging!

February 2013

Another month gone!
Lots of reading, making new brooches, trying new products & cuddles with Jean!

I do have more then one cat but Popsy hates the camera which is a shame as she's so pretty. I have loads of blurred photo's of her tail as she runs away.

Tomorrow is Crikey!

This one will have an evening event too!

Looking forward to it....... better get making some more brooches.
