Our beloved Charlie

Just a short post today.
A year ago today our beautiful Charlie passed away.
Seen here with silly Nanny hiding under the netting!

I can't believe the year has gone so quickly...... at the time I was so upset that I had to take 5 days off from work, something the company had never heard of. I only took a day when my nan died & 2 days when my nephew died. Charlie was 16 years old, that's a grand old age.

Everyone said it would get better with time but I must confess I still cry most days..... today will be hard, this is one of the first times I've even looked at a photo of him. I brought a box frame to go beside his ashes but I can't face sorting it just yet....maybe another year!

I know some of you will think this is a bit odd because it's just a cat but I wanted to share this with you as this was the reason I started blogging. At the time I felt so alone..... OH couldn't really cope with me & I couldn't speak to anyone without crying so blogging seemed the best idea...... thanks to Mel Mel for telling me to do it.

So this means it will be my anniversary very soon, I may do another giveaway but I must say I haven't finished the last one....sorry!!! I'm trying..... honest!
I really don't feel creative at the moment & even knitting or crocheting is hard...can't get it right! I'm sure this is just a blip...fingers crossed!

Have a good day, beautiful day here in Devon..... I'm off to the pub!!!!

  1. BIG BIG BLOG HUGS TO YOU

You are not silly - I love my cat like she is a person ;0) and absolutely dread the day she isn't around any more. I hate leaving her in the day when I am at work and I am a gibbering wreck when I have to put her in the local cat hotel when we go on holiday.

    Lots of love to you

    Sam xx ;0)

  3. Oh, thanks for sharing that, Joe. I'm sorry you feel so low, but I admit that I am glad to have you as a blogging friend, so maybe we bloggers get to see the good that has come from your loss.

He does look a wonderful cat.

I'm off to do a giveaway post, IF my internet connection will be so good as to stay on long enough to let me post anything...

  4. I totally understand your sadness and feel sorry that you are still feeling the loss of your cat so deeply. Over the years, sadly I have experienced many cat loses. One of them was also 16 years old and had to be put down following a stroke. Puce (French name) was put to sleep as I held her in my arms. This was in the middle of the night at home. I was devastated as I had her from the time she was a kitten. I was inconsolable, I was heavily pregnant at the time and my baby kicked all night long. My baby was alarmed by my grief no doubt. I shall never forget that night or Puce.
Another cat went missing and was never found, to this day I still wonder what happened to him. He was one of the most affectionate cats I had ever had. You never forget them. People who do not have pets don't always understand the impact it has when a pet dies.
It does get easier with time but it takes the time it has to take. There is no set time. We are all different.
The importantthing is to let it out not bottle it up. Hopefully you will get some comfort from having done a post about it.
    Take care

  5. It's definitely not silly, Joe. I remember losing my cat, it must be 20 years ago now, and it was the most horrible thing. When my grandad died, it was sad but really, he'd had a great life and was 87 and to be totally honest, my cat had had a bigger part in my life. I dread the day we have to say goodbye to any of our current furry friends so I totally understand how you are feeling, don't feel silly or apologise. Something would be wrong if you didn't miss Charlie, it's only natural that you do and a year is nothing at all.
    Take care.

  6. Not odd at all to feel like this about a cat. You know that I am feeling sad about a cat today and thank you for your comment by the way. No sign of fat boy yet. I'm sorry you still feel sad about Charlie but it's totally understandable. 16 years is a long time to have a pet. They really do become such a big part of the family. Thinking about you and sending a virtual hug. Fiona

  7. My Mum was exactly the same as you when her cat died, she couldn't function properly and wouldn't eat. So, I totaly understand where you're coming from.
    Sending ((hugs)) your way.

  8. Its not silly, our pets become family members, and we love them so much, it is perfectly natural to miss them so much. I know I have , and still do. Big hugs to you. Suzie. xxx

  10. thinking of you. And I don't think it's silly at all - often times pets can be closer than, and more of a comfort than, family members - just because their not human, doesn't make grief at their passing any less felt, or more easily dealt with. Big hugs to you, take care of yourself xx

  11. Of course we understand - our pets are part of our family who just don't live long enough.

    Sending hugs your way....
