Crikey It's Over!

The sun certainly had it's hat on yesterday!
Unlike last year when it rained for most of the weekend & traders were chasing their gazebos around the field.

I did manage to walk around & say hello to other traders but tried very hard not to spend money!

We raised lots of money for the shelter & spread the word about the wonderful work they do.

Lots of raffle tickets were sold for the knitted Noah's Ark. I've now set up a Just Giving page for those people who can't make it to the shop.
You can find it here

It's pretty big so the winner must be able to collect from the shop.

Hope you've all enjoyed the sunny weekend.

Crikey...... It's tomorrow!!

Yep it's Crikey time!

I'll be there selling for the RSPCA shop but I'll also have a few of my goodies to sell.

The weather forecast is beautiful (unlike last year!) which is good because I'll be outside in a gazebo.

I've been boxing & bagging up all week so I hope I raise lots of money.
We'll be spreading the word as it happens to be the RSPCA week too!

If you're around Exeter do pop along to say hello, I'm only there on Saturday.

1940's Day Out

Summer's here & that means a busy time ahead attending all the 1940's weekend popping up in Devon

Today we headed to Saltram House near Plymouth for the first ever Spitfire & Sweethearts event.

I was brave enough to wear my dress for the first time!

My brother came with his lovely little dog who seems to enjoy sitting on my lap!
He also brought his son who I don't seem to have a photo of..... whoops!!

We managed to grab a table in front of the entertainment tent & stayed there all afternoon. The entertainment was put on by The 1940's Roadshow
These ladies were fab..... Ice An A Slice..... me & Oscar even had a little dance!

My dad's favourite

You can't beat your mummys picnic..... yummy!

It was time for me & my special friend to walk off our lunch

The Spitfire was very loud, even though we weren't close when it started poor Oscar was not happy.
I had to make a mad dash across the field with him in my arms!

There was a selection of traders, I was thankful I didn't do this one as they all said that the whole weekend had been very slow. There's only so many vintage fairs you can go to!

We sat for 3 hours in the sunshine listening to the lovely music, it was a perfect afternoon..... apart from the fact I now have a beetroot forehead!
Let's hope they do it again next year.

Our next outing is the Dig for Victory show, it'll be a first for us. Let's hope it's a good one as it's a long journey.

May Book Review

Nearly 1/2 way through June & I'm just doing May's review.... tut tut!

Only 2 books in May, this seems to be my limit at the moment

stockings, lisle . . . shoes, black clumpy . . . The list went on and on. And to think that she'd chosen the WAAF because the blue uniform looked so smart! When war broke out, seventeen-year-old Christie could have stayed down on the family farm in Norfolk, where she was wanted and needed. So why had she joined up? Come to that, why had Meg from Cheshire, and Sue, very much the big city girl from Liverpool, and Shanna, the life-toughened product of a broken home in Glasgow? Mixed reasons. Very mixed backgrounds. But no time to think now. Not with the sergeant shouting and the station air-raid siren beginning to wail . . .

Another lovely WW2 romance. I really enjoyed this book, the characters seem very real & the bond of friendship in that time were very strong.
8/10

Portsmouth, January 1941. When the Luftwaffe unleashes its full fury on the city in the first of three major blitzes, the Taylor family are bombed out. Judy finds her job relocated from the gutted Guildhall to a hotel in Southsea, and home is now a small terraced house in April Grove, with one fewer bedroom and no bathroom or inside lavatory. And then there is the news she has been dreading: her sailor fiancĂ© has been killed.
Judy and her young, recently widowed aunt Polly decide to turn their grief to good account, and join the WVS - running canteens, accompanying evacuee children, and helping the families of servicemen, often in the face of danger from air raids, flying bombs and V2 rockets.
Gradually, Judy and Polly find their own grief healing as they take part not only in their war work but in the life of April Grove, and although both are at first convinced they will never know love again, they both find it in the least likely manner

It took me a while to get into this book but once I did I loved it. Lilian Harrys writing is great, the way she describes the country side makes you feel you were there. It really highlights the tough time people had on the home front during WW2.
9/10

So that's it for May. I'm trying to stop reading WW2 romances as I feel I've read enough. However I'm really struggling with my June books so I think I might go back to these!

All of my books are purchased from my charity shop, at only £1 each they're a bargain!
Check out your local charity shop or if you live in Exeter & would like me to look out for a book just give me a shout.

Happy reading!

D Day - 70 Years On

Ok so I know I'm a day late posting this!

Yesterday I spent the morning watching the BBC coverage then I had a date with a pint of cider & some birthday cake!

You see D Day is also OH's birthday!
We spent the afternoon in the pub with friends.

I also did a little nod to D Day in my shop

A lovely being creative with my windows & it's great having lovely comments from customers

I'm enjoying 3 days off at the moment which is great. Only 1 day left to do all my housework but I'm hoping to fit in the boot sale & see my nephew after his big operation on Friday.

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend

May 2014

May included cuddles with my girls, remembering VE day, a evening at the theatre, a new puppy in the family, losing weight, drinking too much & getting some Headspace!

I didn't manage to tick anything off my list but I now have 2 more men in life.... more about that later! I also started a cardigan, it's been about 20 years since I made myself a cardigan! Unfortunately my Carpal Tunnel is playing up so I'm going to put it on hold for the moment, I've been aware for a few days that knitting this has made it worse but I've been trying not to think about it.

I have a few half finished project which I plan to finish in June, I also need to work on my list & read more. Before we know it we'll be 1/2 way through the year!

June also brings the RSPCA week..... I plan to do a window display of knitted animals so if you're in Exeter & fancy helping out please let me know.
